In the 22nd minute, Germany took a 1-0 lead from a controversial goal. When Ilkay Gundogan brought Willi Orban down and the referee did not blow a foul. Gundogan followed up to get the ball but had no angle to shoot. So he passed it back to Jamal Musiala who caught it before shooting with his right foot into the net.

In the second half, Germany almost pulled one back in the 55th minute. When Ilkay Gundogan collected it on the right and crossed it into the middle. But Peter Gulacsi parried it away. Toni Kroos collected it and fired a shot from outside the penalty area that deflected off a Hungarian defender, but Gulacsi flew to parry it away.

Hungary also had a chance to equalise in the 60th minute when Sallai crossed for Barnabas Varga to head the ball just wide.

But it was Germany who pulled ahead 2-0 in the 67th minute when Maximilian Mittelstadt broke through on the left and crossed for Ilkay Gundogan to fire home.

Then it was Germany who seemed to have the upper hand and almost got one more in the 74th minute when Joshum Kimmich shot with his left foot but Gulacsi managed to dive and block it. Then Leroy Sane dragged the ball and shot with his right foot from outside the penalty area but Gulacsi managed to dive and block it behind again.

In the 90th minute, Hungary almost scored from a long ball. Neuer came out to receive it but it slipped out of his hands, allowing Orban to shoot and almost score, but it was blocked by Kimmich who was standing on the line to block it.
